Obituary of Ellen E. Hosford

It is with great sadness, mixed with gratitude for so many blessings, that Ellen’s family announce her peaceful passing at the Moncton Hospital, on Sunday, March 9, 2014. She leaves to mourn her son, Michael (Susan Boudreau) of Moncton; her grandchildren, Shonda Secord (Pierre Rondeau) of Rosemere, Quebec, Matthew Secord (Heather Ritchie) of Halifax, Kelley McLean (Andrew) of Kamloops, British Columbia and Jill Hosford (Alex Macdonald) of Riverview; her great-grandchildren, Ariel, William, Lauren, Edward and Jaimie; her dear sister, Sheila Pipes (Harris) of Amherst and by her sister-in-law Julia Mills of Ottawa. Ellen will also be remembered fondly for her generosity, warmth, wisdom and love of life by her extended family, including several doting nephews and nieces, as well as her many friends and bridge partners in the Moncton/Riverview area, in Port Howe, Nova Scotia, where she summered for more than three decades, and around the world. She was predeceased by her sweetheart and husband of 59 years, Harold E. Hosford, her beloved daughter, Sandra Devlin and three siblings, Elsie Hawkesworth (Earle), Jim Mills and Barbara Mills. Born in Dawson Settlement, New Brunswick, on July 26, 1926, Ellen had a long and distinguished career in accounting with such firms as Lee and Martin, J. G. Touchie & Company and the Riverview Animal Hospital. She proudly gave back to the community at every occasion and was a charter member of St. Paul’s United Church, Riverview. Special thanks to the staff at the Moncton Hospital and to all those who reached out to provide support, comfort and the hugs she cherished so much, both during her illness and throughout her life, in particular Cy Lipton (Stella) of Riverview, Sharon Seely (Mac) of Petitcodiac and all her "angels" near and far. Visitation will be held at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB., Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm followed by a service at The Riverview Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00pm with Rev. Dr. Andrew O'Neill officiating. A Private Family interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Ellen’s memory made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
