Obituary of Ernie G. Newhook

Ernie G. Newhook of Riverview passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Botwood, NL he was a son of the late Leonard and Daisy (Peyton) Newhook. Ernie retired from Co-op Atlantic Foods in 2001. He loved being around the water as well as hunting and fishing while living in Newfoundland. He enjoyed sports and coaching in minor hockey. He was past president of the Alzheimer’s Society, was a recipient of the 125th Centennial Medal and a member of the Riverview Lions Club for 23 years and serving as Lion Tamer and as chairman on numerous committees. He was honoured with a life memberships from Lions Club International and the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. Survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Newhook of Riverview; son, Richard Newhook (Michelle) of Riverview; two sisters, Doris Nicosia and Helen Bignell; brother, Robert Newhook (Phyllis) and eight grandchildren. In addition to his parents Ernie was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline (Hayward) in 2016 and by a sister Shirley Parsons. Honouring Ernie's wishes there is no viewing at the funeral home, cremation has taken place. Ernie's family will be receiving family and friends at the Riverview Lions Club, 701 Coverdale Rd. Riverview on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. A private family graveside service will be held at Fairhaven Cemetery with Rev. Jonathan Gorham officiating. Donations in Ernie's memory made to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Lions Foundation Dog Guides would be appreciated. Special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Medical Staff of the Moncton and Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospitals and also to the Doctors, Nurses and support staff of the Victoria General Hospital Halifax where Ernie had his Heart Transplant Operation in May 1994. Thank you for giving Dad a chance to live, to love and to spend these extra years with his wife, his children and grandchildren.
