Obituary of Elsie Blakney

It is with profound sadness that the family of Elsie Blakney ( nee Greer) of Riverview announces her passing on November 7th. Born in Quincy, MA. in 1928 she was the daughter of Norris Greer and Elsie ( Trask). When the Depression hit, the family moved back to Joggins where she spent her formative years. She forever held her time in Joggins close to her heart. Eventually making her way to Moncton, in her eyes a mere poor cousin of her beloved Joggins, she married the love of her life Bob. Initially Mum worked at Blue Cross and Eatons and eventually worked at Cadman's Funeral Home where she became the receptionist and office manager; a position she throughly enjoyed. In retirement Mum and Dad found their little piece of heaven in Inglewood, Florida. Their active lifestyle included swimming, beachcombing for sharks' teeth, round dancing, attending festivals, and a host of others activities. Mum was a gentle positive spirit and a friend to everyone she ever met. She was she proud of her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She followed their many accomplishments with absolute glee. She herself was always a great dancer, particularly jiving and round dancing, a lover of animals, a skater, a calligrapher, a knitter, a reality TV lover, a free cell player, and a keeper of family milestones. Her high school yearbook shows that she was in charge of humor. This is one of the sides of Mum we'll miss the most; her quiet gentle self deprecating spirit imbued with a great sense of fun. She is survived by her loving husband Bob; daughters Lynda Anderson of Calgary, Ab; Judie Blakney of Innisfail, Ab; and son David ( Pam) of Moncton; seven grandchildren; Troy ( Elizabeth), Chris ( Erin), Chad, Shawna (Scott), Sharla ( Derek), Alisha (Scott), Haley ( Brad); 15 great grandchildren; and her brother Al Greer of Truro. Besides her parents she was predeceased by one son Bruce, son in law Watler Anderson and her sister in law Eleanor Greer. Honoring Mum's wishes a graveside family service will be held at a later date. Donations in Mum's name can be made to the SPCA.
