Obituary of Gladys H. Hicks

Gladys Hicks, of Moncton and formerly of MacLaughlin Rd. passed away at with her family by her side at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Born in Sunny Brae, NB., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Annie (Price) Stevens. Gladys began knitting at the early age of 4, using a set of knitting needles which were popsicle sticks, whittled down by her father. She carried on this passion for knitting even after losing her eye site. Gladys made many gifts through knitting, quilting and crafts (Christmas ornaments), possessions her family will always cherish. She was also very faithful to the Moncton Hospital making endless baby hats for new borns. As her health began to diminish, she would courier the baby hats to guarantee their arrival at the hospital. As Gladys was the wife of a dairy farmer, the late Hardy E. Hicks, she would tend to the flowers and large vegetable garden. After the farm was sold and time passed, Gladys enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. A loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, she will be sadly missed by her children Dale Hicks of Moncton with whom she resided, Faye Hicks of Halifax, NS and Donald Hicks (Karen) of Sussex, NB; two grandchildren Tom (Carolyn) and Tim (Sharon); four great grandchildren Bradley, Ryan, Tyler and Erika; one great-great grandson Sawyer and by her sisters Fannie of Kentville, NS and Evelyn of Stephenville, NL; as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Hardy E. Hicks in Jan. 1977 and siblings Leverett, Harold, Beatrice and Helen. At Gladys request there will be no viewing or visitation at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home. The Private Family Graveside will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Moncton at a later date with Rev. Mel Fawcett officiating. Donations in Gladys' memory made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to the Open Hands Food Bank, 19 Mark Ave. Moncton, NB E1C 7H1 would be appreciated by her family.
