Obituary of Ruth Edal Lean

It is with sad regret that the family of Ruth Edal Lean announces the passing of the stalwart matriarch of our family. Born November 26, 1918 in New Glasgow, N. S. to George and Maude Oke, she graduated from Moncton High School and worked for Lounsbury’s during the war.! She married Silas F. Lean in 1942. She is predeceased by her husband Silas F. Lean, daughter Linda (Hamilton), brothers Frederick and Robert, sisters Esther (Baird) and Anna (Cosman) and son-in-law Walter Degginger. She leaves behind her loving daughters Cheryl Lean (Graham Metson) of Belleville Ont, Kathryn Lean of Blandford, N,S. , Sandra Lean- Leighton (Tom Leighton) of Toronto, and grandsons Geoffrey Hamilton, of Montreal and Peet Smith, of Toronto. Her childhood summers were spent in St. John’s, Newfoundland with her grandparents and she enjoyed many happy summers at her family cottage in Point du Chene, N.B. She followed her husband, an Assistant Superintendent with the CNR to Fredericton, New Glasgow, Truro and in 1979 retired back to Moncton. With a passion for sports and travel, Ruth was a skilled curler, enjoyed lawn bowling and once hit a hole-in-one at golf. She traveled extensively and celebrated her 92nd birthday on a Caribbean cruise. She was an active member of the Moncton Curling Club, IODE, Beta Sigma Phi, Moncton Hospital Auxiliary and St. John’s United Church UCW. Visitations will be held at Tuttle Bros Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd, Riverview at 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Friday April 10, 2015. Funeral service will be at the same location Saturday April 11, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Internment at Fairhaven Gardens will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to CNIB and Moncton Hospital. Special thanks to the staff of Grass Home for their loving care they offered our mother and to Donna Babineau of the CNIB for her regular visits.
