Obituary of Al Forsythe
Al Forsythe of Moncton, passed away with family by his side at his residence on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the age of 71 years.
Born in Moncton, NB on May 27, 1938 he was the son of the late Aubrey and Geraldine "Gerry" (MacKay) Forsythe. Al retired from the Canadian National Railway in 1993 with 33 years of service, following his retirement he kept himself busy working for Lawson's and Manheim's in Moncton. He was a member of the CNR Veterans Club, Past President of the Moncton Kiwanis Club; twice Past President of the Moncton Curlers Association; Past President of the New Brunswick Curling Association; Past President of the Canadian Curling Association. In 2008, he was inducted into the Executive Honour Roll of The Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. In 2008, after 5 years of dedicated service, Al proudly hung up his red Canadian Curling Association jacket, giving him more time to devote to Bonnie, his children and grandchildren, and to the 2009 Ford World Curling Championship. Al was instrumental in bringing the 2009 Championship to Moncton, during which he served as Co-chair of the Ice and Rocks Committee.
Left with fond memories are his his common law spouse Bonnie Hamilton; daughters Colleen (Joerg) Soltermann of Cornwall PE, Shawn (Hugh) Poirier of Stellarton, NS, and Kelly-Jo (Stephen) Melanson of Moncton; sons Tim (Lise) Forsythe of Moncton, Jeff Forsythe of Toronto, and Mark Forsythe of Charlottetown PE; sister Lorna (Richard) Steeves of Moncton; and Bonnie’s children Brant Hamilton of Moncton, Kelly (Vernon) Harris of Moncton and Craig (Heather) Hamilton of Miramichi; loving grandchildren Sarah, Tanya, Marlise, Aaron, Trevor, Rebecca, Grace, Éric, Mélodie, Brooke, and Logan; his sister Lorna (Richard) Steeves of Moncton.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Carol (Deroche) Forsythe in 2005; sister Sharie Forsythe; brothers Bernie MacKay and John "Jackie" Forsythe.
Resting at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home with visitation on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 2:00-4:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm.
The funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 am with Pastor Richard Steeves officiating.
