Obituary of Dorothy Estelle Bauer

BAUER, Dorothy Estelle, of 52 Connaught Ave, Moncton, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov.1, 2012. Dorothy, often known as "Dot", was the daughter of the late George and Margaret (Blake) Harper of Surrey, Albert Co. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lawrence (Larry) Bauer, in 2007. She is survived by her son, Lawrence P, of Vancouver, B.C and two sisters: Helen Harper and Laura (Roy) Day, both of Moncton. Dorothy was also predeceased by her brothers: Gerald (Bessie), Charles (Muriel), Royden (Kay), Claude (Audrey), Paul (Winnie) and one sister: Grace. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Dorothy was a survivor of a stroke that occurred in 1999 that left her left side paralyzed. Her determination and zest for life enabled her to continue to do many things using only her right side. She was a wonderful example to all those with whom she came in touch. She always retained her keen mind, her wit and sense of humour. She could remember every detail of stories of past and present, about herself and about others. She amazed so many people by her acute awareness of life around her. Dorothy was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, St. Augustine’s Seniors’ Club and the Lion’s Seniors’ Club. In the last few years of her life, she received exceptional care at her home, especially from: Therese, Sharron, Claire, Irene, Barb, Ramona, Denise, and Gloria. Without these wonderful Care-Givers, she would not have survived for so many years in her own home. Special thanks go out to the expert nurses in Extra-Mural and VON, her friend and priest, Fr. Bernard Sloan, who tended to her Spiritual needs, by visiting her many times at home. He brought her special meaning to Christmas and Easter, with his beautiful services at home. Special thanks go out to Dr. Pat Phelan, Dr. Bhalla, as well as the nurses of the 5200 Block of the Moncton Hospital, for their outstanding care when she was there for many months following her stroke. A note of thanks also goes out to the wonderful Pharmacists at Shopper’s Drug, who were always there for her medication needs. Also, a special note of thanks goes out to Denis Myatt, who handled many of her financial affairs. Visitations will be held on Sunday November 4, 2012 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial, will be held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday November 5, 2012 at 2:00pm, the Mass will be concelebrated by Father Allison Carroll and Father Bernard Sloan. Internment will follow at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in Chartersville. Following the Mass, a reception will be held downstairs in the Church Hall of Saint Augustine’s. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, 171 Lutz St. Donations in memory of Dorothy can be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, and to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
