Obituary of Michael Arthur Oatway

Michael A. Oatway, 59, of Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Born in Moncton on December 12, 1947, he is the first son of Dr. William A. Oatway and the late Barbara (Sharman). Michael was a graduate of Moncton High School, he received his BA from UNB and continued his studies at UdeM where received his B.Ed and Masters in Administration. He taught for 31 years at Harrison Trimble High School and later served as Vice Principal. Michael believed in volunteerism and was very community oriented. He served as President of the Moncton Lions Club; the Moncton Teachers Credit Union; N.B. Teachers Association District #2; Codiac Vikings Swim Club; Moncton Youth Residences and the Greater Moncton Retired Teachers Association. As well as serving as a Director of the Provincial N.B Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association. He presently was a member of the Review Committee of the Youth Alternative Measurers. An avid traveler, he loved planning and travelling the world with his wife Maureen. Michael enjoyed all genre of literature and music. He will be sadly missed and always loved by his wife of 37 years Maureen (O'Hearn) Oatway; daughter Marnie of Campbell River, BC; son Mark and his wife Jenn of Barrie On. all of whom he was very proud; his father Dr. William A. Oatway and his step mother Barb of Moncton; also survived by a sister Sharman Arslanian (Karnig) of Riverview; a brother Stephen (Lois) of Riverview; his father in law and mother in law Bannon and Pat O'Hearn of Riverview, brother in law Rick O'Hearn (Karen) of Huntsville, On; a niece Tiffany; nephews Zachary and Alexander. He was predeceased by his mother Barbara (Sharman) Oatway. Visitation will be at the Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. on Thursday, November 1, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 1:30 pm with The Rev. Chris VanBuskirk officiating, assisted by Fr. Phil Mulligan.
