Obituary of Wm. John "Jack" Meahan

"Jack" Meahan, 76, of Riverview, NB; passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Born in December 26, 1931 in Lower Newcastle, NB; he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Ida M. (McKay) Meahan. Ordained a Catholic Priest in 1957, he served in Chatham, Fredericton, Saint John and Montreal. He graduated from St. Thomas University in 1953 and entered Holy Heart Seminary in 1953, he served as Priest until 1971. It was from here he went to his natural calling, working with the less fortunate through the Province of NB as an Administrator in Dorchester and Moncton. Jack was instrumental in setting up the Community Volunteer Action Groups in the Province of New Brunswick. After retiring in 1994, Jack worked with students of Riverview High School as a councilor. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus St. Augustine's Council # 7940. He is survived by his wife, the former Penny (McKinnon); three sisters (twin sister) Jacqueline Ronan (the late Donald) of Newcastle, Anne Stymiest (the late Danny Donaldson & the late Jean Guy Stymiest) of Chatham and June Allain (Albert) of Newcastle; one brother Allan Meahan (Wanda) of Ottawa; a sister-in-law Ella Meahan of Saint John, NB, by many nieces and nephews also by special friends Doug and Dale Carruthers. Besides his parents he is predeceased by two brothers Blair Meahan and Wallace Meahan and by Wallace's wife Kay. Resting at Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview with visitation on Monday, September 29, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Parish Prayers and sharing of memories will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home Monday evening at 8:30pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's and Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Bartibog, NB on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Celebrant Fr. Gratton and Fr. Cobbina assisting. Interment will be in St. Peter's and Paul's Parish Cemetery, Bartibog, NB Donations in Jack's memory made to Moncton Food Bank, Alzheimer's Society or to Forest Dale Home Inc. would be appreciated.
