Alexander Sellars

Obituary of Alexander Sellars

Alexander Sellars of Riverview passed away at ProTem Health Care Centre in Moncton on Monday, July 20, 2026. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, NS he was a son of the late Ernest and Hilda (Kendall) Sellars.

Alexander graduated from the Western Technical and Commercial School in Toronto, Ontario with a Tool and Die degree. He started out in the Canadian Laundry and Machinery Company. He took courses in food management from Cornell University while working for Loblaws and Dominion Stores in Toronto.

Alexander always had a desire to get back to the Maritimes; he was fortunate to come to work with Sobeys in all three major New Brunswick cities. From that, it led to an opportunity to become a government meat inspector. Originally trained in Moncton, New Brunswick at Hub meat Packers then moved to Morristown, Nova Scotia to work with Larsen Meats Packers and Armstrong Meats (Kingston). After his retirement in 1995 he enjoyed buying and selling while attending auctions and flea markets, also having a great love for sports, especially hockey, baseball, hunting and fishing. Never a man who was afraid of work and enjoyed using his handyman skills to keep up maintenance at the local church and enjoyed the group he worked with there. He enjoyed getting men together for breakfast and time of fellowship at the church. Also, helping to plan and be a part of the Men’s Retreat at Kingswood Camp in NS, and to be part of the growth group here in Moncton was meaningful.

Survived by his wife, Ruth (Wright) Sellars; sons, Wayne Sellars, Philip (Angelica) Sellars; daughters, Leona (Greg) Dodge, Heather Sellars, Valerie (Jean) Goguen; sister, Joy Stock; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Alexander was predeceased by sisters, Flora (Cecil) Milley, Pearl (Ron) McNutt, Beverly (Bruce) Young; brothers, Leslie (Marg) Sellars, John (Kay) Sellars, Eric Sellars, Allister (Linda) Sellars and granddaughter, Nicole Sellars.
