Obituary of Sabine Christina Mebis

Sabine Christina Mebis of Upper Coverdale, NB, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre.

Born in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Gunther and Helga (Wadas) Strothotte. Sabine enjoyed a 10-year career with the Moncton Times & Transcript, now Postmedia.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Dieter-Mebis of Upper Coverdale; her son, Benjamin Zeidler (Breanna) of Moncton; her daughters, Jaclyn Melanson (Joshua) of St. Charles, and stepdaughter, Stephanie Mebis (Sheldon) of Shediac; her cherished grandchildren, Laney Faith and Naya Eden Hope, both of St. Charles; and her sisters, Marion Kube and Brigitte Meinusch, both of Germany.

She had a gift for making spaces—and people—feel at home. A passionate gardener, she poured her heart into creating beautiful flower beds and spent much of her time outdoors, hands in the soil, nurturing life. She was endlessly creative and always working on a new project. Her talent for interior décor made her home a place of comfort and beauty, and it reflected her generous spirit. Together, they created a true open house, welcoming friends and strangers alike from all backgrounds. She had a rare ability to form lasting connections, even with those who came into her life briefly, and she cherished staying in touch with her Airbnb guests long after their visits ended.

A memorial service will be held at the Moncton Seventh-Day Advetist Church,161 Salisbury Rd., Moncton, NB., E1E 1A6 (506) 382-5561 on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at  3pm.
