Obituary of Emeline Marie Hickey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emeline Marie Hickey (MacRae), age 93, in Riverview on Tuesday January 13, 2026, surrounded by love.

Born on September 12, 1932 in Louisdale, Cape Breton, NS.
Emeline lived a long and meaningful life defined by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and kindness to all who knew her. She was a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother, whose presence brought comfort, wisdom, and warmth across generations.

Emeline had a heart of gold & was beautiful inside & out. She’ll be remembered for her gentle spirit, quick wit, unwavering faith, generosity, her love of baking sweet treats & playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on the Bay of Chaleur in Jacquet River, NB. She had a special way of making people feel welcomed and cared for, and her home was always a place of love and togetherness.

She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Evan Hickey, her parents William & Maude (Sampson) MacRae, her siblings, Teresa Boudreau (Harry), Rose Patriquin (Harry), Dorothy Sampson (Vincent), William (Dilly) MacRae (Ruth), Ethel MacRae, Alvin MacRae & Suzanne in infancy.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Colleen Samson, Glenn Hickey (Kathie), Rosa Brown (Derrick), Keith Hickey (Alison) and Don. She was a devoted & adoring Nanny to her grandchildren, Shannon, Andrew, Robyn, Kristen, Sean, Sarah, Brynn & Liam and her great-grandchildren, Landon, Evan, Cameron, Cohan, Scottie & Arthur. She was also a source of comfort & kindness to many nieces & nephews.

The family is deeply grateful for the care, support, and kindness shown to Emeline in her final days. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 5 Fatima Dr. Riverview, NB (506) 386 6178 on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or an organization of choice in Emeline's memory.

Interment will be held in Jacquet River at a later date.
