It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Pearl Godfrey (formerly Rideout, née Parkhill), age 92, of Riverview, New Brunswick. Audrey passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Chipman, N.B., Audrey was the daughter of the late Fred and Florence Parkhill. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harlow (Randy) Rideout, her second husband, James E. Godfrey, and her two brothers, Dr. Winston Parkhill (Mary) and John F. Parkhill (Phyllis). Audrey is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She consistently made an effort to keep in contact with them, as family was always a priority in her life.
Audrey was a devoted member of St. Paul’s United Church in Riverview, N.B., where she served on the session and contributed to catering dinners and banquets. She graduated from Chipman High School, attended Teachers’ College, and the University of New Brunswick. Audrey dedicated 34 years to teaching in Chipman, Saint John, and Montreal.
Her many interests included; music, reading, dancing, bowling, theatre, quilting, bridge, computers, Grand Lake, N.B., and spending time with family and friends. She sang in several choirs, attended leadership camps, and helped organize and lead youth groups. Audrey was a life member of the United Church Women, a member of the Moncton Probus Club, and the Retired Teachers’ Union. She gave generously to the Foster Parents’ Plan and World Vision for many years.
In retirement, Audrey was an avid traveler, exploring North America, the UK and Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Panama Canal, and Russia. Travel was her passion.
The family would like to thank the team at Parkland for their care of Audrey and special thanks to the staff at the Halifax Infirmary and Dr. Amy Nason for their compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Foster Parents’ Plan. By request, there will be no church service or visitation. Interment will take place at a later date at the Red Bank Cemetery, Chipman, N.B.
