Obituary of Shirley Mae Howatt

Shirley M. Howatt, 92 of The Salvation Army Lakeview Manor Riverview and formerly of Peoples Park Tower Moncton, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully within the comforts of her residence on Thursday, April 17, 2025 after a lengthy illness.

Born in the family home in Sunny Brae, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Colburne) Simpkins. Shirley retired from the Federal Government as an Office Clerk and was a member of Mount Royal United Church. She was a former member of Charlie’s Angels Round Dance Group and Hobans Heroes Square Dance Group.

Shirley will be sadly missed by her loving sons, David Howatt (Eileen) of Bon Accord, AB and Douglas Howatt (Tanya) of Hillsborough; cherished grandchildren, Lisa Howatt (Dan), Emily Howatt (Eric), Bretany Holly (Hudson) and Colin Lutes (Justice); precious great grandchildren, Jon, Ella, Ryder, Scarlett and Matteo; sister, Carol Ann Eddy of Victoria, BC; sister-in-law, Carol Simpkins many extended family members. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack"; Joseph Howatt (May 2017); brother, James “Jimmy” Simpkins and numerous other relatives.

Shirley’s family would like to thank Lisa and the staff of The Salvation Army Lakeview Manor Riverview for the compassion and care given to Shirley during her stay. Also, many thanks to Tanya (Shirley’s daughter in law) for taking tremendous care of Shirley throughout her illness.

Family and friends are invited Fergusons Riverview Funeral Centre, 214 Pine Glen Road, Riverview (506-857-9544) for visitation on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Service to Celebrate and Honour Shirley’s Life will be held from Fergusons Riverview Community Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment to be held in Elmwood Cemetery, later in the spring.
