Obituary of Gerald Robert Calder
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gerry Calder, 80, of Riverview, NB on April 14, 2025 at the George Dumont Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Luther and Bernice (Godsoe) Calder.
Gerry held many positions over the years, including the Canadian National Railway as a Rail Track Maintainer. However, he took a particular interest in the law enforcement sector. Not only was Gerry a Prison Guard for Dorchester Penitentiary for a number of years, he also went on to join the Commissionaires shortly thereafter. At his time with the Commissionaires, Gerry was one of the first Security Guards to obtain the requirements to work within federal buildings. “Integrity, Respect, Excellence, Community”, the Commissionaires motto, Gerry lived proudly by for 15 years before retirement.
An avid sports fan, you could often find Gerry yelling at the TV cheering on his favorite teams, the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Blue Jays. If you asked him “did you see the game last night”, you knew you’d be in for a long conversation recapping every play. In his leisure time, Gerry enjoyed golfing and curling. He spent multiple years coaching the junior golfers and spent countless hours with the local curling club in Plaster Rock, NB.
Gerry is survived by his sister Linda MacCallum, step-son David McLaughin, three nephews Greg, Dale (Faith) and Cory (Tracy), several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Gerry was predeceased by his great nephew Nicholas.
Respecting Gerry's wishes a private family service will be held.
Interment will take place at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Gerry made to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
