Obituary of Evelyn Wall McGregor

Evelyn W. McGregor, of Riverview, NB passed away peacefully with her loving husband by her side at the Dr. George L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Evelyn (Stokel) Gillies. In her youth Evelyn was an avid Scottish Country Dancer and performed at Stirling Castle. Evelyn enjoyed reading and numbers, she worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia, and the CIBC Bank. In her later years, Evelyn worked independently providing accounting services for smaller companies. Retirement took them to California for 5-years before returning to Canada and choosing New Brunswick.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 52 years, Colin McGregor and their 52nd wedding anniversary was on March 17th, two days prior to her passing. Colin’s card brought a loving smile to her face, “FOR MY WIFE ON OUR ANNIVERSARY I wonder if you really know what a wonderful woman you are. I’ve told you far less often than I should. It’s hard to find the words to say all the things you deserve to hear - if I could say them perfectly, I would. I’d tell you just how much it means to be given the gift of your love and how that love has changed me for the better. I’d say it takes a wife like you to reveal the soul of a man - if he can open up enough to let her. It may be that there are no words to thank you for all that you’ve done to support me and create the life we share… But should you ever feel unsure of the love I have for you, just look into my eyes. You’ll find it there.”

Evelyn is also survived by her devoted puppy Tootsie; sister, Lillian Bell of Edinburgh, Scotland; sister-in-law, Joan McGregor; and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Scotland, California, and Ontario Canada.

At Evelyn’s request, there will be no services held. Cremation has taken place at Fergusons Crematorium, Riverview.
